A sun-drenched cafe in one of the hottest tourist hotspots in Arizona has received a $6,000 donation from a philanthropist who says the cafe can help people who are struggling financially.
The $6 million Sunshine Cafe, a new venture that opened in December in a strip mall on a former horse-drawn carriage, is owned by a local entrepreneur and will offer a variety of food options and free WiFi.
“I am very excited to be able to open this space, to create something that’s really special for Buffalos,” said David D. Ponce, owner of Sunshine.
“I know there’s a lot of people who can’t afford food, but we’re not going to tell them that it’s not worth it.”
He added that the restaurant will also serve free hot chocolate, breakfast burritos, and coffee.
Sunshine has partnered with the Buffalos Community Foundation to open the cafe, which will include a restaurant, retail and bar, as well as a rooftop lounge.
Pone said it’s been a long road to get to this point, and he hopes the restaurant can help other struggling communities.
“There are a lot more people in this country that can’t get to the beach or the ocean or whatever, but it’s all about the money,” he said.
“This is a chance for people to get a meal for free.”
The cafe will be a new business in Arizona, with a focus on catering to the community, according to a press release from the nonprofit.
It will offer everything from a full buffet, breakfast, and lunch, to desserts and beverages.
The cafe will offer breakfast burrito, salads, a breakfast sandwich, and a full breakfast buffet.
The restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch every day from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., with a full menu available throughout the day.
The buffet includes traditional and seasonal entrees, as many as 12 different options, including breakfast burries, sandwiches, breakfast tacos, salads and sandwiches.
“We’re going to give back to the Buffaloes community by opening a great business and opening a good food experience,” Pone added.
Sunrise, a small, three-story restaurant and bar with outdoor seating, opened in 2016 in the former horse carriage.
The restaurant has been open for a few months, and its owners hope to open another one in the near future.
Ponce said he’s been working with the local community for a long time.
“Buffalo is a small town and we’ve never had an opportunity to really really make a difference for this community,” he added.
“It’s been something I’ve always been a big fan of and I’ve been able to be part of the process, so this is something that I can be a part of.”
